“I like to move it!” is probably the best known song from the animation film “Madagascar”. The party anthem is sung by the lemur King Loui. The prosimians with large eyes are only found in Madagascar. The bright and colourful island off the south-east coast of Africa has plenty more to offer – and was the inspiration for our organic Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world - full of animals and plants that cannot be found anywhere else in the world and landscapes that could not be more different. In the centre of the island there is a high plateau with mountains – the soil glows red. The east is deep green with an untouched rainforest and fragrant vanilla plantations. The entire island used to be covered by a tropical forest. Today around 80 percent of the land is yellow steppe. And surrounded by the blue sea, which the former sea nomads still live from today.
Red, green, yellow, blue. The new organic collection is full of summer tones: sustainable favourites like the FLORAH LONG ORGANIC shirt and the HEAVEN A shorts shine as brightly as the island. Maritime prints with stripes, waves and fish whisk you off to the coast – SEA BREEZE ORGANIC is your T-shirt for a summer by the sea. Flowers, butterflies, tropical fruits, palm leaves and tigers - you’ll also find the jungle in our collection.
We were even inspired by Madagascar and its inhabitants when choosing the materials. Madagascans wear thin cotton cloths, lambahoany - as blankets, canopies, baby carriers, tablecloths and handkerchiefs. For our products, we use organic cotton with GOTS certified organic fibres. For example, you’ll find the soft, breathable natural fibres in the TAG A ORGANIC dress, in the LIBERTY B ORGANIC sweatshirt jacket and in the PAUL STRIPE ORGANIC T-shirt.
That’s not the only thing we have in common with the islanders: protecting our planet is very important to us. Nature conservation is even laid down in the constitution as a national objective. But this is hard to implement as long as the population lives below the poverty line and more forests are being cleared every day.
